Lallenmawii (Sandeep Kachchhap, Education) THE INFLUENCE OF PEER RELATIONSHIP ON LIFE SATISFACTION OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENT IN SAU. Abstract (Hyperlinked).

Purpose of the Study

The purpose of the study is to evaluate the influence of peer Relationship on Life Satisfaction of Undergraduate Student in SAU. It is an attempt to understand how peer relationships have influence on the life satisfaction of the undergraduate students.

Objective of the Study

To assess the nature of peer relationships and level of life satisfaction in the

sample.

  1. To analyse the influence of peer relationship on life satisfaction.

Methodology

The type of research that is used for this study is quantitative research, which means that it is objective and numerical in nature. This type of research generally uses survey questionnaire to collect data and the analysis includes statistical tests. Further, Creswell (1994) has given a very concise definition of quantitative research as a type of research that is explaining phenomena by collecting numerical data that are analysed using mathematically based methods, particularly statistics.

It is a descriptive quantitative research. The study was descriptive in nature and questionnaires were utilized to determine the influence of peer relationship on undergraduate student’s life satisfaction in a private university. Data was collected and analysed using statistical methods.

Results

The results of this study include the following:

That a large number of students indicate that

– There was no difference in the life satisfaction of males and females in the sample.

– That life satisfaction was not different for Ist year, IInd year and IIIrd year students.

– There was no significant difference in the Life Satisfaction of students from all seven divisions.

– That there is no significant difference between the male and female student’s perceptions regarding

peer relationship in undergraduate programs.

– There was no significant difference in the perceptions of students regarding the

level of student Peer Relationship in terms of the year of study.

– There was no significant difference in the perceptions of students regarding the

level of student Peer Relationship in terms of the divisions.

– Peer Relationship (β=0.27) has a significant (p = .001) influence on Life Satisfaction of students.

Conclusion

In this chapter, the researcher divided this chapter into two parts. Part – I, Description of the Sample and Part – II, Answering the question guiding the study. In part- I the researcher give a description of the sample and found out that the 3rd year students (49.67 %) are more than the 1st year students and the 2nd year students, and the male (50.32 %) responses are more than female responses. Majority of the respondents are from Maharashtra state (21,56 %) and majority of the responses are from division of Business. In Part – II, it gives answers to the three guiding questions of the research. The

level of Life Satisfaction was found to be between neutral and satisfied on an average, however, the standard deviation scores suggested that a solid conclusion could not be made. The level of Peer Relationship was also found to be mostly at the mid-point of the rating scale except for item 10 and 11 in the Peer Relationship questionnaire. However, the standard deviations also indicated that there was a wide disparity ( + 1) in the responses which did not allow making clear conclusions. Finally, the influence of Peer Relationship on Life Satisfaction of undergraduate students was found to be significant, however, it caused only 7.2 % of variance in Life Satisfaction of the sample.
