Spicer Adventist University, a glimpse . . .
Spicer Adventist University, Pune, established by the Government of Maharashtra vide Maharashtra Act No. XIV of 2014 (also called as the Spicer Adventist University Act, 2014).
SAU is a member of the Adventist Accrediting Association (AAA) of Seventh-day Adventist Schools, Colleges and Universities, instituted by the Board of Regents of the General Conference of Seventh-Day Adventists, USA. Therefore, any member institution of AAA accepts the academic credits from Spicer Adventist University. This automatically embraces several universities and colleges worldwide, which come under the umbrella of AAA.
Although the history of Spicer Adventist University (formerly Spicer Memorial College) may seem brief, but it is, indeed, the culmination of a kaleidoscopic saga of over a century. Its roots can be traced to the South India Training School at Coimbatore, which was established in July 1915. Later, it was moved to Pune, Maharashtra, India, its present location.
The University, situated in the heart of the well-known educational and cultural city of Pune, known as the ‘Oxford of the East’. Spicer’s strategic location provides the students an opportunity to obtain a university education in very favourable surroundings. . . The following units are operational under Spicer Memorial College, a self-supporting organization: the farm (where the produce is to provide for the students’ cafeteria and the campus residents), auto industry, metal industry, printing press, peanut butter unit, soya products, confectionary, canteen and Spicer Higher Secondary School. Hundreds of college students from economically weak background graduated by earning their college fee working in any one of these units assigned through Students’ Work Education Programm.
